FARAD
F
The farad is the SI unit of the capacitance of an electrical
system, that is, its capacity to store electricity. It is
a rather large unit as defined and is more often used as a
microfarad. See Metric Prefixes.
It is named after the
English chemist and physicist Michael Faraday (1791-1867),
who was an electrical pioneer. More

FIFTH WHEEL
Coupling device attached to a tractor or dolly that supports
the front of a semitrailer and locks it to the tractor or
dolly. The fifth wheel's center is designed to accept a trailer's
kingpin, around which the trailer and tractor or dolly pivot
in turns.
FOR-HIRE
CARRIER
Transports the freight of others. A private carrier carries
company freight on company trucks (often complete fleets of
trucks).
'For-hire' includes Common and Contract Carriers.
For-hire carriers are regulated in the US by the UDDOT (interstate)
or by the state DOT or PUC (intrastate).
(PUC = Public Utility Commission).
